Old Moroccan Silver Coin Necklace, Haha Tribe, Western High Atlas Mountains
An old original silver coin necklace, made by the Haha (Ihahan) Tribe of the Western High Atlas Mountains, Morocco. It comprises twelve old silver coins, mainly Moroccan, dating between 1321-1336 Hijri years (1903-1918 in the Gregorian calendar). Amongst them are three old Spanish coins, which dangle from the main central large coin. These depict King Ferdinand of Spain who reigned from 1813-1833 (Gregorian calendar). One of these coins is clearly dated 1827. Presumably these coins reached North Africa via trade routes.
The old coins are strung with a mixture of glass and plastic beads and the string is tied with an old button. A lovely collectible tribal piece.
