Old Bohemian (Czech) Necklace, Mali

£75.00

A beautiful old glass wedding necklace, made in Mali, traditionally passed from mother to daughter on her wedding day. Each necklace is unique as it was strung individually with specially chosen beads for the wearer.

The glass beads were made in Bohemia in the former Czech Republic and were used throughout Africa for trade. The hourglass shaped beads were especially prized by Fulani women due to their resemblance to the female form.

This necklace is very colourful with a mixture of patterned and plain beads of different sizes. It slips nicely over the head for wear. The stringing has been replaced in its lifetime. A unique necklace to collect or wear and treasure.
