Old Moroccan Silver Coin Necklace, Haha Tribe, Western High Atlas Mountains

£345.00

An old original silver coin necklace, made by the Haha (Ihahan) Tribe of the Western High Atlas Mountains, Morocco.

It comprises twelve old silver coins, mainly Moroccan, dating between 1321-1336 Hijri years (1903-1918 in the Gregorian calendar). Amongst them are three old Spanish coins, which dangle from the main central large coin. These depict King Ferdinand of Spain who reigned from 1813-1833 (Gregorian calendar). One of these coins is clearly dated 1827. Presumably these coins reached North Africa via trade routes.

The old coins are strung with a mixture of glass and plastic beads and the string is tied with an old button. A lovely collectible tribal Amazigh (Berber) necklace.
