Rare Antique Taliouine Headdress, Morocco
A stunning antique complete frontal headdress panel with original chain made by Jewish artisans in the Taliouine region of Morocco. The silver filigree patterned work and tiny granulation on this piece are intricate and so beautiful.
The pigment (not enamel) is in rich orange and blue colours, very striking. Two cone shaped elements stand proud, echoing the same colouring and both have a matching filigree design. A red glass (or possibly agate) cabochon adorns the centre. Five old original coin dangles are suspended from the main element. Two of the coins are dated 1321 Hijri years (1903/4 in the Gregorian calendar) and the central coin is 5 Francs.
This old headdress would have been worn on the forehead of a woman with the hooks attached to her veil and the coins dangling above her eyes.
This is an amazing rare piece for the discerning collector. As a unique antique piece, once it’s gone, it’s gone.
