Antique Silver Kabyle Fibula, Algeria

£355.00

A beautiful very old fibula, made in the region of Kabylie, Algeria, in the first half of the 20th century. This type of fibula is known as adwir and was worn on its own, not as part of a pair, usually as a head or chest ornament.

This high-grade silver adwir is bursting with detail and is quite heavy and substantial. It has traditional enamelling in mustard, blue and green, some of which has worn away through age, and boasts fine silver wirework and granulation. It is adorned with coral cabochons. Eight ornate dangles are suspended from the main element, again with enamel and coral. A central conical coral cabochon completes the piece.

With its beautiful patina, this item is a collector’s dream. A real find.
