Rare Antique Figuig Enamel Cross
This beautiful antique silver enamelled cross was made in the oasis town of Figuig circa 1920. Figuig is a remote region, lying near the border of Morocco and Algeria. Jewellery from this region is characterised by green and ochre enamelling with a thick and paste-like texture which has no wire boundary. Prosser glass beads complete the piece, again a characteristic of jewellery from this region.
This really is a wonderful piece. It displays all the attributes of this remote region: the deliberate thick enamel paste with no wire boundaries, the glass Prosser beads, the outer granulation. A very rare collectible pendant in good vintage condition (also wearable or usable in a jewellery project).
