A highly decorative Tuareg ‘Issaran’ necklace, made in the 1990s by hand. This high-grade silver circular pendant with carnelian represents the full moon and is often worn by Tuareg women at special occasions which often occur at the time of the real full moon. The surface of the carnelian is semi-transparent and highly polished. The silver setting is very ornately designed and has hand-engraved traditional patterns and shaped dangles. The beads are glass and decorated silver. On the reverse is the signature of the maker. This is a beautiful quality statement piece, not a tourist item but rather an original Tuareg necklace that would have been treasured by its owner. A rare find in good condition.
