ULTRA RARE Antique Silver Figuig Bracelet, Morocco

£1,495.00

This ultra rare bracelet was made in the oasis town of Figuig circa 1920. Figuig lies near the border of Morocco and Algeria. ‘Ettah’ is the local name given to such a bracelet. It may have been worn by a bride on her wedding day. This bracelet is nearly 300g of silver, very heavy. It is extremely ornate with lots of large silver granulation surrounding the already elaborate design elements and coral cabochons. The traditional green and ochre enamelling is thick with no wire boundary as is commonplace for bracelets from the Figuig region. Due to its age, some of the enamelling has now worn away and the bracelet has beautiful patina. During its lifetime the pin for closure has been replaced. (There is a small hole where the original pin would have been attached.) Interestingly, the hinge opening is approximately a third of the circumference of this bracelet rather than the usual half of the circumference seen in regular bracelets. This is a feature sometimes found in Figuig bracelets.

This really is an amazing antique item for the discerning collector. Solid silver Figuig bracelets are now very scarce and therefore highly sought after.
