Mid-century Silver Hirz Amulet Pendant, Morocco
Mid-century silver hirz (amulet), made in the Tiznit region of Morocco in the early 1950s. The silver is high quality and the traditional yellow and green enamelling is carried out to a good standard. Touches of blue enamelling give added interest. The silver wirework and granulation are intricate and a red glass cabochon embellishes the amulet further. Attached as dangles are four old 100 franc coins dated 1372 Hijri years, approximately 1953 in the Gregorian calendar. On the back is a box which would have contained verses from the Qu’ran, believed to give protection to the wearer. A collectible item.
